The first work is to choose a good upholstery quality fabric. Try to avoid choosing a regular fabric as they are not so durable. You will also get the stain resistant upholstery fabrics which are really easy to maintain. You don’t need to worry about any tea or coffee spill as these are re-washable. While choosing upholstery, see that it is matching with other furniture in the room. It is advisable not to take any stiffer and thicker upholstery as the re-upholstery process could be tough. Some of the tools are very important to reupholster furniture and these are needle or nose pliers, rubber mallet, welting, staple gun, Sharp scissors, cotton batting and glue gun. Cotton batting is usually used to make the sitting arrangement comfortable. You can also take the help of any friend as sometimes it becomes tough to arrange the whole thing on your own.
Chair cushion reupholstering is perfect for the amateur in this field. You can practice on some of your cushions before starting reupholster something else. First you have to unscrew the cushion of the seat from the frame of the chair. Then the staples should be removed. Next step followed by removing the fabric. If it is looking worn out, you can also change the old batting.
Some of the chairs are made with one piece of wood. Such piece can be taken and placed on the top of the new fabric. The fabric should be cut around the wooden piece with the pair of scissors. You can keep two to three inches extra on each side. Replace the whole stuff with batting. The seat board should be placed on the top of it. Staple gun can be used to staple the batting. Excess batting should be trimmed off.
The piece of wood should be placed over the fabric. It should be stapled on four sides with special neatness to the corners. The excess fabric should be trimmed and your new seat is ready.
