12. Five Spring Decoration Tips

from:

Spring is generally a time when most people do out with the old, and bring in the new. It’s a time when furniture is upholstered, the corners are cleaned and the attic and basement are poked into. Decorating a home for the season need not cost an arm and a leg, and can be accomplished with a few spring decoration tricks.

The first would be to move furniture from the more comfortable concentrated groups, and push these as far back as possible. Spring is a season when a great deal of time is spent by the entire family out of the home, and the furniture placement should reflect this. Get rid of the throws and any rugs you may have placed for the warmth, and put these into storage after a good cleaning. Space is essential for spring, since you’d be preparing for bracing fresh air to permeate your home.

The second thing you should do is replace the curtains. If you’re repainting the house, it would be a good idea for the drapes to match the paint (or vice-versa). Try going in for light color and fabric. These should waft and flow with the air coming through the house. They should be easy to part and hold back with fasteners. Curtains are make or break the look of a house and spring curtains are there primarily for their aesthetic looks, so go ahead and pick drapes that play the part (without breaking the bank).

Next on the list is the household linen. Come spring, most of the linen around the house ought to be replaced with more practical linen. Practicality would include linen that’s lighter, both in the type of fabric used as well as the colors. Bed spreads should not clash with the wall and curtain colors. Other linen like the kitchen linen would also reflect the seasonal change at this time. Placemats and napkins could all be changed to bright (although light and pleasing to the eye) colors. Bathrooms can also be transformed towards becoming more practical and efficient during the spring, with towels and mats being replaced with lighter material.

Fourth, is the outside of the home which needs to be decorated like a butterfly’s just emerged from its cocoon! The garden if there’s one, should be tended to with hedges receiving a prune, and compost being spread. Spring flowers should be planted for the brightness they add to the home. If there’s a lawn, it would be a good idea to add some lawn decoration like a figurine or perhaps a bird bath.

The final tip is to use porcelain decorative pieces. Hands painted ones are especially attractive and go well on the mantle, at windows and even by the front door. The kitchen and dining areas too could use a few of these.
