Paint Trays: These help you to hold the paint while you apply it to a roller. There are disposable products on the market, or you can purchase a rather inexpensive plastic version and use it many times over.
Masking Tape or Painters Tape: Either option is good. These are applied to the edges of surfaces you do not want to paint, such as along the ceiling, the floor, light fixtures and window frames. This type of tape removes easily, without pulling off the actual paint or varnish on these surfaces.
Scraper and putty knife: You will need these to remove old paint from the walls.
Patching compound: If you have any holes in your walls, you can patch them using this product. You will need to apply it, allow it to dry, sand it smooth and then use a flat paint to prime the area before painting it.
Sandpaper: Helpful in removing paint from walls.
In addition to these painting supplies, you may also want to consider cleaning supplies. There are wall cleaner products on the market you can use, along with a sponge, to wash down the wall prior to painting. You may also want to use a towel or rag to dust off and clean off the walls.

Now that you have some of the painting supplies you will need, you also need to consider items like paint brushes, rollers, and paint sprayers. Any and all of these products are a good investment. You definitely need to invest in brushes to do most of your trim work. Rollers are some of the easiest and most inexpensive ways to apply paint to the walls. Paint sprayers are a good investment for larger areas.
